Choosing Your First Iron to Sharpen

You are going to read along while I sharpen this plane iron. This is a laminated iron from an old wooden plane. “Laminated” means that part of the blade is soft wrought iron and part is hardened steel.

Use whatever blade you have that needs to be sharpened. Start with a plane blade. Chisels are slightly different, but if you can do a plane blade, then you can do a chisel.

Let’s get started by squaring the edge.
